Heaven's Benefit Package with Nonstop Mom Carolyn Shuttlesworth

In today’s society rewards are given for everything. One of the main reasons people sign up for a particular credit card is the type of rewards that are offered.

When we shop for new cars, our choices are affected by what type rebates and rewards we’ll receive. When we choose insurance, we want to make sure we receive the best benefits possible.

Many of us have spent hours on a phone call with customer service agents to find out why we didn’t get the reward we were promised.

Imagine if we spent that kind of time seeking God for His blessings. There are heavenly benefits afforded to us and we must find them in the Word of God.

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 NLT)

What are the rewards for seeking Him? It’s imperative we find out what they are so we can receive them.

Obviously, Salvation is the most important reward we could receive, but once we become Christians, we need to discover the benefits that that God has provided for us as His children. I want to focus on discussing four of the many benefits found in Scripture.

1. Divine Healing

David wrote in Psalms 37:25 “I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.”

In Matthew 15, Jesus reveals that healing is the “children’s bread.” Do you see the connection? What’s the reward for our faith? If you’re a child of God, healing bread is now a reward that belongs to you! You don’t have to beg for it; you have to receive it and take hold of it with a bull-dog tenacity and get what was promised to you.

2. Spirit Baptism

Not only do I believe being filled with the Spirit is for today, I believe it’s a requirement to go further faster in what God has called you to do.

What’s the reward? Let’s read what Jesus promised His followers would happen when they were baptized in the Spirit:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 NLT)

When you’re filled with the Spirit you become confident and full of faith. (See Acts 4:31.) God gives us His Spirit to carry out His work. When we’re empowered with the presence of God we begin to work the works of God. God has commanded us to live this way (John 14:12).

Every time we see people added to the kingdom in the book of Acts, they are also filled with the Holy Spirit. This is a clear picture of God’s intention for His children.

3. Supernatural Joy

This may not sound like a big deal, but if the devil can steal this one thing, he’s won. If your joy is gone your strength is gone. (See Nehemiah 8:10.)

What’s the reward? You can have victory over depression, anxiety, fear, and sickness. That’s a bold statement, but indeed a fact. (Grab my husband’s book Praise. Laugh. Repeat. How To Live In The Power Of Overwhelming Joy.)

Depression, anxiety, fear, and sickness are spirits. With joy, you won’t be destroyed by a spirit of heaviness.

As I mentioned at the beginning, if you’ll study the Word of God, you’ll be in His presence and in His presence you don’t have to battle things He’s redeemed you from.

David understood the benefits of God’s presence and he was able to describe them in great detail. Here is one such example:

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11 ESV)

The same will be true for you. When you access His presence, supernatural joy is immediately afforded to you—not to mention the many pleasures found at His right hand.

4. Financial Increase

This always seems to be a touchy subject in the body of Christ—which is funny to me. We, as Christians, serve the King of kings.

Jesus was wealthy by the time He was two years old. He continued to increase for the next 30 years. The kingdom of God is based upon increase. So why on earth do we try to hide our God-given increase or talk ourselves out of it?

We can’t be a blessing to anyone if we aren’t blessed ourselves. This is one of the reasons Jesus died.

Though [Jesus] was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9 ESV

What’s the reward? 1 John 4:17 says we are to mirror Christ here in this world. I expect a return when I give. You should, too. Jesus takes great joy blessing His children (Psalm 35:27 KJV). He rewards us just like parents reward their children for doing right.

God said that His people are destroyed for their lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). Study your benefits and know what is rightfully yours. The benefits are tremendously better than any offer this world could give. We aren’t of this world (John 17:14), so we shouldn’t give this world more thought than we do the Kingdom!

Love you! —Carolyn
